Day 22-Kentucky: Churchill Downs and KFC
Giddy up y’all! It’s the Grumpys back for a jam-packed blog! Today we visited Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby, and the OG KFC!!! HAPPY 17th BIRTHDAY PATRICK!
This morning, we woke up at 6:00 AM to completely soaked and bug filled tarps. Yay!! Then, we completed our morning ritual of napping on the bus and van. This morning we were treated to muffins and bananas as our nutritious breakfast. Patrick's mom sent a birthday party in a box for his birthday which entertained the bus for our drive. The noisemakers were a hit! We then did some more driving and more sleeping until lunch was served. Props to the cooks for the ham and cheese rolls. With only minutes to spare after lunch, we made it to Churchill Downs! Dallas’ pictures were more forceful than normal, but eventually we made it inside for our tour. We were able to see an amazing view of the track that has not been changed once in the entire Churchill Downs history! Then we did some damage in the gift shop and walked around in the museum, competing to see whom the best jockey was! After a short derby movie, we left and were on the road to our dinner spot: KFC! We were split into our groups and worked on our next competition. We made a pit stop at a Blue Beacon car wash to get our vans and bus all clean for our return. After a long ten-minute drive, we made it to Sanders Cafe! The amazing Sneezys gave us a wonderful buffet style dinner with chicken, biscuits, green beans, mac and cheese, and mashed potatoes. After spending our money on great chicken-themed souvenirs, we were on the road again to our campsite! We made it and immediately began the competition. Nothing prepared us for what the groups came up with but we all had a great time performing them. But not everyone can be a winner and the winners of the TWB Trip 3 Talent Show were Sleepys! The winners of the whole trip were the Bashfuls. But most importantly, the winners of the best cooks of the trip were the GRUMPYS! We ended the night by practicing a song for family and friends at return (we know you’re excited to hear our beautiful vocals ☺).
