Day 19: Air Force Academy & Olympic and Paralympic Museum

Hey hey it’s the Happys!

This morning Alyssa and Grant thought it would be a great idea to play a little basketball at 5:30 this morning to wake us up (we disagree). We were ahead of schedule this morning leaving the Custer YMCA at 6:05 to head towards Colorado Springs! After a nice morning nap on the bus, we enjoyed pop-tarts and oranges for breakfast before making our first stop at a rest area in Lusk with a playground for us to swing on. We had a few more hours on the bus playing what are the odds and catch phrase, making bracelets, and listening to some music before making it to Cheyenne, Wyoming. We grabbed some snacks at a Flying J and then were off on our final stretch before making it to the Air Force Academy where we walked like the cadets while Aubrey kissed one on the cheek for good luck. We listened to Reagan’s research and spent some time watching a documentary to learn just what life is like at the Academy. Then we headed on to the US Olympic and Paralympic Museum to admire the artifacts and play on the interactive simulations that allowed us to step into the shoes of Olympic and Paralympic athletes. After loading the bus again, the counselors said that we were in for a surprise as we started driving through the Garden of the Gods to catch some great views. We made it to Colorado College where we practiced for our dwarf dance competition out on the lawn and listened to Ryan J., Rachel, and Ashton’s research. Then, the highlight of our dining experience on the whole trip: some real food. When we saw the Dominos delivery car pull up there wasn’t a face without a smile. We devoured pepperoni and cheese pizza after a friendly Hunger Games competition of food catching. Randy gave us some solid life advice and then had staff trivia to determine who got the last five slices of pizza, things got intense. The Grumpys unpacked the bus and we moved everything inside the Colorado College gym to set up our sleeping bags and do some last minute touch ups to our dances! Our 2022 Trip 3 dance competition winners were the GRUMPYS! After the competition was over, we had a dance party to celebrate our new friends turned family. We showered and headed to bed for our long drive through Kansas tomorrow.
