Day 2: New Orleans
GOOOOOOOD MORNING!!!
We had a startling yet, amazing wake up call from Dallas at 5:30 this morning! She even sang us a song to kick start our day! As fast as we could, we brushed our teeth and loaded up the bus as we started our long day’s journey. First stop was a tour led by Grant through the beautiful Auburn University campus. Grant even played their fight song when we drove past the stadium! We took some great pictures next to the sign, and then made a morning pit stop at Walmart! The Happys fed us a nutritious breakfast of Pop Tarts and applesauce! Yum! We rode through the remainder of Alabama, Mississippi, and into the lovely Louisiana (with plenty of rest stops along the way.)
On the bus, we continued to switch seats in order to converse with new people and keep the ride interesting. We made friendship bracelets, played card games, made a large playlist with our favorite songs, and journaled. On our way to New Orleans there was a large bridge closing so we detoured through a suburban neighborhood, which slowed us down a little. We got to see the true nature of different areas in Louisiana. At last, we arrived in the magnificent New Orleans! We walked through the bustling streets and listened to some interesting presentations while feeling the breeze of the Mississippi River. We journeyed to see St. Louis Cathedral, stopping by Café Du Monde on the way. After taking a group photo on Bourbon St., we were set free to safely roam this grand area in smaller groups of six or more. All the groups made a stop at Café Du Monde to try the world famous beignets! We might have left some powdered sugar behind on the floor, but they were scrumptious! Some groups shopped for matching T-shirts, starting a rivalry between a group of boys who bought matching Hawaiian shirts and a group of girls who bought matching New Orleans shirts. Other groups bought gumbo, postcards, beads, and stickers! We made our way back to the bus in time to drive to tonight’s campsite. On the way, we sat on the bus in our different groups to plan for tonight’s competition. Each group will perform their own rendition of the song Dixieland Delight!
We arrived at our place for the night, which is a beautiful dorm style setting filled with bunk beds! Grant calls it the Taj Mahal. Our dinner was spaghetti with choice of sauce, broccoli, garlic bread, and choice of cake slice. It was so good with thought we were in Italy. Our Dixieland Delight competition winners were the Sleepys!! But, everyone put in great effort. We ended our night receiving our TWB merch!!!
