Day 5: Painted Desert

Greetings, this is your Dopeys typing!

Today was a spectacular driving day as we loaded up the bus, after getting to sleep in this morning, and making our way to the big hole in the ground. For breakfast, we had a delicious and nutritious meal of cereal, juice, and bananas. On the bus we filled the time with some amazing karaoking. The songs ranged from Boyfriend to Fergalicious to Sweet Caroline and American Pie. These amazing performances included cameos from our fantastic bus driver, Randy, duets and trios alike, Hotel California from Elijah, and an unexpected reveal of talent from Patrick in American Pie. The van slept and had an emergency pit stop. For lunch, we had some refreshing ham or chicken sandwiches with carrots and ranch. After a few rest stops, we arrived at the Petrified Forest, where we had to lay a lucky smooch on some petrified wood. We then took a short drive to the lookout for the Painted Desert. After taking pictures, we listened to some lovely research on the state of Arizona and our two stops. We loaded back into the bus and van for a stop at Wal-Mart, where the coveted and rare share size pack of Fudge Brownie M&Ms were finally founded after days of no success. The group also bought snacks and supplies for our trek into the Grand Canyon tomorrow. The Grumpys served some delicious chicken salad sandwiches, grapes, pretzels, veggie straws, and Capri-suns. As we drove into the Grand Canyon, we saw many elk and Touristas. The bus enthusiastically researched and imitated elk sounds while entering the park. We headed to our campsite in Mather Campground, unpacked our bags, then started a 2 mile hike to an outlook over the Grand Canyon for the amazing sunset. We had some people cry, while others describe it as mesmerizing, inspiring, astonishing, and of course, big. We returned to our campsite for an early bedtime in preparation for our 4:30 hike tomorrow morning. Call you tomorrow!
